Legal Requirements for Bunding Bulk Tanks

Bulk tanks for storing fuel, oil and chemicals often pose the greatest spillage risk on site.The Control of Pollution (Oil Storage) (England) Regulations 2001 require sound tanks and bunding to contain 110% of the capacity of the primary tank (or 25% of combined storage when more than one tank is situated).

The Environment Agencys Pollution Prevention Guideline PPG2 recommends that bunds should have:

  • Reinforced Concrete Construction
  • Base and walls impermeable to water and oil
  • Any fill or draw off pipe within the bund or, if not, adequately protected by secondary containment

Bund Repair and Relining Service

A professional and dedicated team will repair, reconstruct and line the bund with a Glass Reinforcement Product (GRP) system. The appropriate resin would be selected for the stored liquids. The performance and strength characteristics makes GRP ideal for relining bunds where long life and effectiveness are important.

The bunds would be structurally repaired and then the surface prepared using mechanical means including gritblasting. An appropriate resin would be selected for the stored liquids and the GRP system applied that will offer decades of protection.
